ARCHIVED - 74-year-old man drops dead from heatstroke in Seville
In a tragic day another elderly man in Seville drowned in a hostel swimming pool
The stifling heatwave continues to take its toll on Andalucia with punishing temperatures of more than 40ºC and on Wednesday August 3 the heat took the ultimate toll.
A 74-year-old man died of heatstroke in the street in Seville as he was walking on Calle San Juan Bosco, right beside Santa Justa station.
The National Police received reports that a person had collapsed at 6.30pm and the emergency services rushed to the location. They determined that he had gone into shock after severely overheating but sadly could not save his life.
Also in Seville, a 64-year-old man has drowned in the pool of a hostel in the municipality of Carmona. A family member called the 112 Emergency Services at 6.47pm and reported that the victim was at the bottom of the pool, unable to get out.
Members of the Local Police, the Guardia Civil and the Fire Department all came to the aid of the swimmer. Emergency personnel carried out cardiopulmonary resuscitation manoeuvrers but nothing could be done to save the man’s life and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
