Perhaps the week to come will finally see the number of fatalities begin to fall, signalling the end of the sixth wave
14-day incidence rate in Andalucía since March 2020
According to data published by the Andalusian Institute of Statistics, the total number of deaths in the region since the pandemic began is 12,096, and the numbers are not showing signs of slowing down yet, with an average of 30 people dying per day.
Since the pandemic began two years ago 1,235,844 have become infected in Andalucía, but 974,341 of those have recovered.
New infections
Coronavirus infections have fallen by 751 in Andalucía in the last day to 7,602 cases, following 8,353 yesterday, 8,444 on Thursday, 6,370 on Wednesday, 8,937 on Monday (48 hours), 12,928 on Saturday, 7,625 on Friday and 17,548 last Thursday.
Cumulative incidence rate
The 14-day cumulative incidence rate has fallen by 64 points to 1,104.6 per 100,000 inhabitants, continuing its downward trend of the last few days.
By provinces, the lowest incidence rate is in Sevilla, with 767; Málaga, with 917.5; and Cádiz, with 916.1. All the other provinces in Andalucía are above 1,000 and the highest is recorded in Almería, with 2,061 infections per 100,000 inhabitants across the previous fourteen days.
Hospitalisations
As of Friday January 28, a total of 2,227 Covid hospitalisations were recorded, 57 fewer than the previous day but 59 more than a week ago, and 223 people are currently in the ICU, two more than yesterday, but 15 fewer than a week ago.
Deaths
The number of deaths per day continues to yo-yo around the 30 mark. Today, there were 32 deaths recorded, after 28 yesterday and a record-breaking 64 the day before, bringing the total number of fatalities since the pandemic began to 12,096.
Vaccinations
Meanwhile, more and more people are getting vaccinated in Andalucía, whether with the first, second or third dose. This means that in total 83.2% of people over 5 years of age – 7,043,243 people – have been fully vaccinated and 88.7% – 7,507,918 people – have had their first shot.
