ARCHIVED - Andalucia Covid cases rise slightly with 1,497 new infections: Covid update May 17
The number of Covid cases in Andalucia has risen slightly following a previous drop in infections.
The number of new Covid cases reported in the Andalucia region have risen by 1,497 new infections and two deaths within the last 48 hours, according to the latest figures from the Andalucian Institute of Statistics (ICEA).
The infections are higher than the 1,354 reported during the same period on the previous week on Sunday May 9 and Monday May 10.
The region’s cumulative incidence rate has risen to 170 cases per 100,000 people in the last 14 days, four per cent higher than on Saturday, May 15, but 10.9 per cent less than seven days ago.
By provinces, Sevilla is the area with the most new positive cases with 400, followed by Granada with 363, Malaga with 204, Jaen with 158, Huelva with 128, Cadiz with 112, Cordoba with 71 and Almeria with 61.
The two deaths were reported in Cadiz and Granada.
The number of patients in hospital with the virus has also risen in Andalucia to 1,016 on Monday, May 17, 40 more than yesterday but 194 fewer than on the same day last week.
Those in intensive care with Covid have risen in line with the number of those in hospital, reaching 279, seven more than yesterday, but 58 fewer than seven days ago.
Andalucia is currently continuing with its vaccine rollout across the region, and is amongst the regions of Spain aiming to vaccinate those aged under 50 from the beginning of June.
The regional health authority said on Monday that by the end of this week more than 4 million doses will have been administered; currently, more than 1.2 million people have been fully immunised and more than 2.5 million residents have been given at least one dose.
