ARCHIVED - Andalusia reports 17 deaths and 1,254 new coronavirus cases: Covid update April 5
The committee of experts will be meeting on Wednesday to discuss new restrictions as the Spanish region is once again at the high-risk level with an incidence rate over 150.
Andalusia registered 1,254 new Covid cases and 17 deaths over the weekend, the regional statistics institute reported on Monday 5 April. No official figures were released on Easter Sunday, so the latest figures are for both Saturday and Sunday.
The 14-day incidence rate in the region is now at 155.4 cases per 100,000 residents, up 5.4 from Saturday and 18.4 from Wednesday, this figure a clear indicator that in spite of all the measures in place, that the underlying indicators are once again rising.
The number of cases was well below the 3,864 reported on Saturday 3 April, which were for three days as there were no official reports on Thursday or Friday due to Easter festivities, and also below the 1,881 reported on Wednesday.
Seville was the province to report the highest number of new cases, 249, followed by Granada with 194, Cádiz with 180, Córdoba with 168, Jaén with 154, Málaga with 142, Almería with 108 and Huelva with
59.
The number of deaths was similar to the 16 reported on Wednesday, 17 on Tuesday and 13 on Monday. Eleven occurred in Granada, two each in Almería and Jaén and one each in Seville and Huelva.
There are currently 1,218 Covid patients in Andalusian hospitals, which is 61 more than on Sunday and the greatest increase on a Monday since 1 February, and 233 more than a week ago. Of the total, 282 are in ICUs, three more than on Sunday and 35 more than last Monday.
