ARCHIVED - Andalusia to use travelling vaccine trucks to reach remaining unvaccinated residents
710,000 Andalucía residents have yet to receive a Covid vaccine
As the vaccination process reaches its final stages and the fifth wave subsides in the region, the president of Andalucía has recently announced that the travelling vaccine campaign, using Covid trucks, will focus on hotspots for young people in the region, aiming to immunize the remaining 710,000 Andalucían residents who have yet to receive a Covid jab.
The Covid trucks are going to be sent to nightlife hotspots, rural areas and sports centres in a bid to vaccinate the remaining 9.3% of unvaccinated over 12s in the region and 156 vaccination centres are also open across Andalucía, with no prior appointment needed.
Regional president, Juanma Moreno, is determined to inoculate as many people as possible, stating that “it takes less time to be vaccinated than to drink a cup of coffee”. He also mentioned that residents who haven’t been vaccinated yet have chosen not to do so for a variety of reasons, including “ignorance, neglect or their environment”.
Over 12 million vaccines have been administered in the region since the campaign began and 87.2% of the target population (over 12s), equivalent to 6,502,979 people, have been fully vaccinated, while 90.7%, equivalent to 6,762,851 people, have received their first jab (data from September 16).
Meanwhile, nationally around 75% of the population has been fully vaccinated and the Spanish government recently announced that elderly residents and other vulnerable collectives will soon be receiving a booster jab.
