ARCHIVED - Assisted bathing area installed in the city of Malaga
The installation has several facilities to help the elderly or people with reduced mobility enjoy the sea in Málaga city, Andalucía
The city of Málaga has installed an assisted bathing area for the elderly or those with reduced mobility for the first time, with several different elements which can be used for sitting, standing or swimming in the water.
The assisted bathing facilities are located between Playa Malagueta and Playa Caleta, near Calle Gutenberg, and will be available until September 30.
Included in the bathing area are benches, covered with a translucent canopy to protect bathers from the summer sun, as well as metal bars which provide support for people with reduced mobility while they enter the sea.
There are also three 15-metre swimming lanes, which have security cordons and buoys.
The department of Beaches in Málaga has also mentioned that the installation of this area has “no environmental impact whatsoever”, as a prior inspection of the area revealed no marine or plant species that could be negatively affected.
Further down the coast, on the Costa Cálida, the municipality of Cartagena, in the Region of Murcia, has also installed three assisted bathing areas on its beaches this month.
