Nalanda report a sharp increase in construction projects across Spain as the sector recovers from the pandemic
Data compiled by the Spanish multinational consortium Nalanda show that as Spain begins to shake off the economic effects of the coronavirus pandemic the number of building and construction projects in progress across the country rose by 42.6 during the first half of 2021 in comparison with the equivalent period last year.
It is reported that 8,889 construction projects were initiated between January and June of this year as opposed to 6,235 in the first half of 2020, which was marked by the onset of the pandemic in Spain and the first national state of emergency on 14 March. The recovery began in the second half of last year and has been notable in almost all of the 17 regions of the country in the first half of 2021, according to Nalanda’s marketing director, Ricardo Muriel.
The only region in which a year-on-year decrease is reported in Cantabria (-3.4 per cent), while the most significant comparative increases are those in Extremadura (+226 per cent), Castilla-La Mancha (+145.5 per cent), Murcia (+133 per cent) and Navarra (+101 per cent). However, in absolute terms the most activity is reported, unsurprisingly, in Madrid (870 projects), Andalucía (1,367), and Catalunya (1,636).
