ARCHIVED - Eleven hospitalized after car crashes onto a terrace in Marbella
One of the victims is currently in intensive care at the Costa del Sol Hospital in Málaga
Eleven people have been taken to hospital after a car crashed on to the pavement in the busy centre of Marbella at around 3.25pm on Monday afternoon (July 19).
The emergency services received the first of many calls about the incident at 3.25pm and reports started flooding in that a vehicle had driven onto the pavement, crashing through a bar’s terrace on Avenida Miguel Cano and running several people over.
Several emergency units from the SAS (Andalucía Health System), the National Police, the Local Police and a mobile UVI (Advanced Life Support) unit were dispatched to the scene, where the police detained the driver.
The 30-year-old man who was driving the vehicle was of Spanish nationality and terrorist motivations have been ruled out, although investigative proceedings are still being carried out to determine the cause of the accident.
The emergency services took 11 of the victims to the Costa del Sol Hospital and treated several others at the scene.
One of the injured is in intensive care and another is awaiting test results, while the other nine people only received minor injuries.
