ARCHIVED - Granada provincial authorities present new animal adoption campaign
Granada Provincial authorities are working to prevent animal abandonment and encourage adoption.
As councils across Andalucia work to crack down on animals being abandoned, Granada Provincial Council has announced a campaign to encourage adoption.
The campaign, a video that will be disseminated online until the second half of July, explains that 834 animals are abandoned every day in Spain and says that adopting an animal is an opportunity not just for the animal but also for the owner.
The scheme also includes a series of short videos with stories of adoption and offers a link to information about keeping pets, veterinarians, councils, legislation and animal associations in the province, including an adoption form.
The council said the campaign was a chance to raise awareness around pet abandonment, as well as to encourage adoption and the respectful treatment of animals.
Granada Provincial Council has been carrying out an awareness campaigns against abandonment as part of reaching their goal that no animals are put down, and in 2019 and 2020 offered workshops in schools in the province to encourage responsible ownership and on animal welfare and protection.
Councils across Spain are working towards a target of putting no animals down unless on medical grounds, and many are offering free neutering services in an effort to stop animals breeding and later being abandoned. Many councils are also encouraging animals to be adopted rather than bought in a bid to crack down on the overbreeding of pets.
