ARCHIVED - Helicopter rescue for 70-year-old mountain climber in Aguilas
The mountainous terrain in Águilas, Murcia, made a land rescue impossible
A 70-year-old man was badly injured this Wednesday morning, January 26, after a steep fall on the Cresta del Escribano in the municipality of Águilas.
The pensioner’s fellow mountain climbers raised the alarm by calling 112 at around 11.30am. Due to the terrain, the emergency services were unable to access the area via land and a helicopter from the Specialised Air Rescue Group of the Firefighting and Rescue Consortium of the Region was mobilised.
Once aboard the helicopter, the 70-year-old, who was badly injured, was stabilised and then taken to the Rafael Méndez hospital in Lorca by an 061 ambulance.
