ARCHIVED - Hundreds break anti-Covid rules over the weekend in Andalusia
Police in Sevilla and Málaga dismantled different gatherings with a combined total of over 800 people
Officers from the Policía Local in Sevilla evicted over 600 rule-breakers from different businesses and properties on Saturday night (July 24), and 200 people were caught at a botellón (street party) in Málaga, despite rising Covid figures in the region of Andalusia.
The largest incident in Sevilla was on a terrace in Muelle de las Delicias, where police had to order 264 people to leave the establishment, as the bar was breaking several anti-Covid rules, including allowing customers to consume drinks at the bar, having too many people per table and not enforcing social distancing or mask wearing.
A further 191 people were evicted from an establishment on Avenida de la Innovación for the same reasons.
The police also received complaints from residents in the San Bernardo neighbourhood in Sevilla, as several people were drinking on the streets and making excessive noise. When officers arrived at the scene, they found around 150 people at a celebration in one of the properties.
In a different part of Sevilla, Carreterra de Carmona, police found 27 customers still inside a bar after the obligatory closing time of 2am. In addition to breaking anti-Covid restrictions, this establishment was also breaking other health and safety rules, as the emergency exits were locked, preventing customers from leaving in case of a fire or other emergencies.
Meanwhile, the Policía Local in Málaga were also busy enforcing anti-Covid rules on Saturday night (and the early hours of Sunday morning), and had to dissolve a large botellón in the parking lot of the Fair and Congress Palace of Málaga (Palacio de Ferias y Congresos de Málaga).
Despite around 200 people being in attendance at this outdoor party, only seven people were fined for consuming alcohol in a public space and one person was fined for dangerous driving.
