ARCHIVED - If you had the Janssen vaccine, you can get a booster jab in Andalusia
Andalucía is giving a second dose of Pfizer or Moderna to anyone who had the Janssen jab, regardless of age
As of yesterday, Monday November 15, the Ministry of Health and Families in Andalucía is offering all those vaccinated against coronavirus with Janssen, regardless of age, the possibility of receiving a second booster dose of either the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine. This comes at a time when the Covid situation in Andalucía is getting worse, with the cumulative incidence rate increasing.
In an announcement, the regional Minister for Health, Jesús Aguirre, explained that to receive the second dose they have the option of going to the vaccination centre, making an appointment or going to the open centres for free vaccination.
Those who originally had the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine and are over 60 years old can receive a third booster jab in the Andalucía region.
Janssen, meanwhile, is the only vaccine that is administered in a single dose. When asked about giving a third booster jab to those who got the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine and are under 60 years of age, Aguirre said that he has already asked his national counterpart, Carolina Darías, for permission to do so.
Anti-vaxxers in Andalucía urged to get vaccinated
In his address, Aguirre also criticised the fact that there are still 540,000 Andalusians who have not been vaccinated because of apathy, forgetfulness or because they don’t agree with the idea of vaccination against Covid.
“The vaccine is medicine based on scientific evidence and the best scientific evidence we have is in hospital admissions and ICU, and in those who die,” he stressed, before stating that “those who are dying and are admitted to ICU are mainly unvaccinated – that is scientific evidence.”
He called on anyone who has not yet been vaccinated to go to the free vaccination points, “if not for them, then for those around them” and has suggested that a Covid passport be obligatory is shops, food establishments, at sporting events and for “any type of activity”, just as the Valencian Community is proposing to bring in.
