ARCHIVED - Murcia Covid Update July 27: Hospital pressure intensifies as infections continue to rise
A 40 year-old woman died this morning from coronavirus, two weeks after an emergency caesarean to save her baby

The evolution of the coronavirus pandemic shows no signs of easing off in the Region of Murcia as hospital pressure continues to increase, with 36 more people admitted in the past 24 hours, according to the latest data published by the Ministry of Health, taking the total number of patients currently admitted to 139. Of these, 19 patients are in Intensive Care Units (ICU).
This level of patients was last seen on March 15 when the region was fully immersed in the third wave of the pandemic.
Sadly, two women aged 65 and 90 passed away on Monday in Cartagena. In addition, a 40-year-old woman admitted with Covid died today after having undergone an emergency caesarean section two weeks ago to save her baby, bringing the total death toll in the Region to 1,615.
The baby was born Covid positive.
She was admitted to the Santa Lucía in Cartagena originally suffering with severe Covid, but after an emergency caesarean was taken to the Virgen de la Arrixaca in Murcia for intensive care treatment at the beginning of July. Unfortunately, her body was unable to overcome the subsequent complications and she passed away this morning.
There are currently 4,012 people infected in Murcia, with 473 new cases reported in the past 24 hours.
Of the 473 new cases, 126 correspond to the municipality of Murcia, 88 to Cartagena, 26 to Molina de Segura, 23 to Lorca and 15 to San Javier. The remaining infections are distributed throughout the remaining municipalities in smaller quantities.
As of Tuesday, July 27, there are 3,873 people in home isolation in the Region of Murcia, up 40 from yesterday.
Vaccinations: To date, 1,628,010 doses of the Covid vaccination have been administered. A total of 936,251 have received one jab while 753,594 people are now fully vaccinated.
