ARCHIVED - New app in Almeria for disabled beachgoers
People with reduced mobility will be able to book a day at the beach with amphibious chairs and/or assistance in Almeria online
Beachgoers with disabilities or reduced mobility will soon be able to book a day at the beach in Almeria with assisted bathing through a new App which will allow people to reserve the use of equipment, such as amphibious chairs, and other services provided by the city council.
Almeria Council is currently working on the application to offer a more accessible coastline to all users next summer. Its development and implementation has already been put out to tender, and is 100% subsidised by the Junta de Andalucía at a cost of 12,100 euros.
The software, which will include amphibious chairs, shaded areas and the support of helpers, amongst other services, will be free of charge for users and will be available in the Play Store and App Store for IOS and Android platforms.

By downloading the application and registering via email, users will be able to request equipment and services during a specific timetable. A municipal coordinator will be in charge of taking requests and assigning bookings and, if the equipment is not available during the desired period, will arrange a different slot. The reserved equipment will then be shown in the App as 'unavailable' to other users, along with a timetable of available spots.
The reservee will then receive confirmation in QR format.
"The purpose of this QR is to serve as proof for people employed to monitor the correct use of the service," explained the Almeria City Council.
In addition, the mobile App will sound an alarm at the beginning and end of the reserved period and provide the mobility service coordinator with statistics on the use of the facilities "to try to ensure there is sufficient equipment and time slots to meet demand".
