ARCHIVED - Number of Covid cases and hospitalizations rise in Andalucía: Covid update June 7
The incidence rate in the region has also increased to 187.3, with the highest rate reported in Huelva: 293.9 cases per 100,000 inhabitants
In spite of the fact that more than two million Andalucian residents will be fully vaccinated by the end of the week, the incidence of Covid-19 cases in Andalucia is continuing to show a slow upward rise.
The combined total of new Covid cases registered in Andalucía on Sunday (June 6) and Monday (June 7) is 1,600, which is an increase compared to the figure from the same days last week; (May 31 and June 1), when 1,397 cases were reported.
The largest number of the 1,600 new cases was registered in the province of Sevilla, with 427 cases, followed by Málaga, with 253, Granada, with 230, Cádiz, with 207, Jaén, with 184, Huelva, with 128 new cases, Córdoba, with 115, and Almería, with the lowest number of cases: 56. These new figures bring the total number of confirmed cases of Covid in Andalucía up to 592,220 since the pandemic began.
There has also been an increase in the number of Covid patients in hospital; the number of Covid patients hospitalized in Andalucía has risen to 746, after five consecutive days of decreasing numbers, while the number of ICU patients has dropped to 171, which is 32 less than last Monday (June 1).
Sevilla is the province with the highest number of hospitalizations, with 216 patients in total, of whom 53 are in intensive care, and the province with the lowest number of Covid patients is Almería, with 20 people in hospital and 6 in intensive care.
As the number of new cases reported increases, so does the cumulative incidence rate per 100,000 inhabitants across the last 14 days, which is now 187.3. The province with the highest incidence rate is Huelva (293.9), followed by Jaén (264.8), Sevilla (227.7), Granada (215.1), Córdoba (167.5), Málaga (160.7), Cádiz (139.8) and Almería (65.7).
The national accumulated incidence rate over 14 days is currently 115.32 cases per 100,000 of population, so Andalusia does have a higher rate than the national average, in fact, it has the second highest level of cases in mainland Spain, with La Rioja reporting 215 and now surpasses the Basque Country with 184 and Madrid with 142.
The Balearic Islands report 40 cases per 100,000 and the Canary Islands 67 per 100,000.
The lowest level of cases on the mainland is the Valencia region, the Comunidad Valenciana, which has a rate of 40.04 cases per 100,000, but this is also rising slightly as just before Easter the rate had fallen to just 26.
Galicia has a rate of 52, Murcia 61 and Asturias 70.
One further Covid death has been reported in Andalucía, specifically in Córdoba, in the past 48 hours, bringing the total number of fatalities since the start of the pandemic to 10,073.
Meanwhile, the number of people who have been given the all-clear in the region is 561,314, with 1,869 more people reported as having overcome the virus in the latest update.
