ARCHIVED - Only one more week: Sierra Nevada ski season drawing to an early end
The management at the ski resort in Granada (Andalusia) has announced that it will be closing in little more than a week.
The company that runs Sierra Nevada ski resort in Granada, Cetursa, has announced its decision not to extend the winter season past 18 April due to a lack of activity. Although exceptions were made to restrictions in Andalusia whereby residents were allowed to travel to Sierra Nevada as long as they had purchased ski passes online in advance, pass sales and accommodation bookings are very low, which has contributed to the management’s decision.
Sierra Nevada will conclude this unusual and difficult winter season as the ski resort on the Spanish mainland with the most days of activity since it opened on 18 December and as one of those that have offered the most skiing days in Europe (122).
This weekend, there are expected to be more than 30 kilometres of slopes open in four of the resort’s six areas, and six ski lifts will be running. The resort is also hosting four Spanish winter sports championships this weekend.
