ARCHIVED - Over 600 people found at a rave in Sevilla on Saturday night
Police issued over 100 fines and seized several different types of drugs at the event in the municipality of Aznalcóllar, Seville province, Andalusia
A large rave, with around 600 people in attendance, took place in the municipality of Aznalcóllar, in Sevilla, on Saturday night, and the early hours of Sunday morning. The small number of police officers available on duty to answer the callout were unable to contain the amount of people present and only managed to fine around 100 people as the party broke up on their arrival.
The party took place in the area surrounding the Madroñalejo bridge and the attendees were of different nationalities. The rave was reportedly organized by a company which specializes in this type of events.
When the police arrived at the scene, they found hundreds of people disregarding Covid rules and regulations, as well as breaching rules aimed at preventing forest fires. The rave took place in an area with dense forestry, which would have been impossible to evacuate in the event of a fire.
The Mayor of Aznalcóllar, Juan José Fernández, has commented on the incident, stating that the authorities were “overwhelmed” with the sheer quantity of uncontrolled people, who were occupying more than 500 metres of road.
He has since asked for a local security committee to be called to deal with the situation and to discuss the lack of police officers. Sr Fernández has also assured the population that this type of incident will not be tolerated again.
Furthermore, at a police control set up on the SE-538 road, a few kilometres away from where the rave took place, officers seized several types of drugs, including cocaine, amphetamines, crystal meth, hashish, marijuana, pollen and MDMA.
In addition to the disciplinary acts issued for drug possession, the police also gave out further fines for traffic offences, not wearing a mask and other breaches of Covid regulations.
Number of Covid cases slowly rising again in Andalusia, which now has the second highest rate in Spain:
As the number of new cases reported increases slowly, so does the cumulative incidence rate per 100,000 inhabitants across the last 14 days, which is now 187.3. The province with the highest incidence rate is Huelva (293.9), followed by Jaén (264.8), Sevilla (227.7), Granada (215.1), Córdoba (167.5), Málaga (160.7), Cádiz (139.8) and Almería (65.7).
The national accumulated incidence rate over 14 days is currently 115.32 cases per 100,000 of population, so Andalusia does have a higher rate than the national average, in fact, it has the second highest level of cases in mainland Spain, only exceeded by La Rioja reporting 215 and now surpasses the Basque Country with 184 and Madrid with 142, both of which have reported the highest rates for the last 2-3 weeks.
The Balearic Islands report 40 cases per 100,000 and the Canary Islands 67 per 100,000.
The lowest level of cases on the mainland is the Valencia region, the Comunidad Valenciana, which has a rate of 40.04 cases per 100,000, but this is also rising slightly as just before Easter the rate had fallen to just 26.
Galicia has a rate of 52, Murcia 61 and Asturias 70.
