ARCHIVED - Over 2,000 women in Nerja will benefit from mobile breast cancer detection unit
A mammogram truck will be travelling to several municipalities in Málaga, Andalucía
The annual Early Breast Cancer Detection programme, organised by the East Málaga-Axarquía Health Area, is expected to reach over 2,100 women in the municipality of Nerja.
From Wednesday September 22, the mobile wagon will be located outside of the Nerja health centre and women aged between 50 and 69 who are registered as residents in the municipality will be receiving their mammogram appointments.
The mammogram truck will then move on to the municipality of Vélez-Málaga, where it is scheduled to remain until the end of the year.
According to the director of the programme, the main objective is to reduce the mortality rate for breast cancer and improve the quality of life of patients, as well as detecting tumours as early as possible.
Anyone residing in Nerja who is part of the target population and hasn’t been called for an appointment is advised to contact their local health centre.
