ARCHIVED - Plan to turn Malaga into futuristic smart-city
Málaga is set to be Andalucía’s first eCity
Málaga city council, Málaga TechPark and the company Endesa, supported by the regional government, have launched a project to incorporate new technology and digital elements into the city of Málaga, creating a new smart-city model.
The pioneering initiative, #eCityMálaga, will be a step into the future and will modernize and innovate different sectors within the city, including the transport, building, energy and water sectors.
Málaga’s technology park, which houses 640 companies and more than 20,000 employees, will be fully transformed by the project, creating an open, digital, decarbonized and energy self-sufficient ecosystem within the park.
According to the new plan, all of the energy produced and used in the TechPark should be completely renewable by 2027 and another objective is to turn transport in the park into a more sustainable model, with car-sharing, electric vehicles and pedestrian-friendly paths.
Another element is the incorporation of photovoltaic solar energy plants, allowing the city of Málaga to take further steps towards using exclusively clean and renewable energy sources.
Transport systems will be modernized, incorporating new digital elements and an open digital platform to manage resources and services within the park is also in the works.
The regional government have expressed their support for the project and have committed to turning Andalucía into a ‘Smart region’, by creating eCity’s across the region, even in the smallest municipalities.
