ARCHIVED - Police deal large blow to marihuana industry in Almeria
The authorities seized over 4,000 kilos of marihuana from a warehouse in La Cañada, Almería
Officers from the Policía Nacional and the Policía Local in Almería have arrested a man and seized nearly 8,000 marihuana plants from an industrial warehouse in La Cañada, located on the outskirts of the city of Almería.
The man was found to have illegally occupied the warehouse, whose proprietors were resolving some ownership issues, to store large amounts of marihuana.
In total, the police seized 7,848 marihuana plants, which weighed around 4,300 kilos, 1,160 grams of marihuana buds and over eight kilos of pre-ground marihuana from the warehouse, located on Carretera de la Cañada-El Alquián.
The man detained, who had an extensive criminal record, has been charged with crimes against public health. The investigation is still open and the police are searching for anyone else who may have been involved.
The drug trafficking industry, especially marihuana, is a big problem for the authorities in Almería and in the rest of Andalucía, and just two weeks ago, officers in Almería intercepted five tons of marihuana earmarked to be illegally shipped to the UK.
