ARCHIVED - Project to turn ruins on protected land in Rodalquilar, Nijar, into small hotel
This is the second project to build hotels in Cabo de Gata natural park in Almería, Andalusia, to be presented for consideration this year.
A project to turn ruins on protected land in Rodalquilar, in Almería’s Cabo de Gata natural park, into a seven-bedroom hotel has been presented to Níjar council for consideration. The plans have gone on public display for 20 days so that allegations against them can be presented should there be objections.
The company, which owns 32,642 square metres of land, wishes to demolish an old 195 square metre country property and 77 square metres of adjoining stables and build a 240 square metre hotel in their place.
The hotel would have seven double bedrooms and a swimming pool, and the work, with a budget of about 600,000 euros and a completion period of around a year, would create two jobs, the project details.
The developers argue that the building wouldn’t have any negative effects on its surroundings and would be as environmentally-friendly as possible, employing solar energy and self-managing waste. The project is also of social interest, they state, as it would bring extra income to Níjar, generate employment and promote new activities such as active, rural and nature tourism including geo-tourism and tourism linked to the conservation of Posidonia.
Another project was presented in Níjar last month to create a hotel in El Playazo, also in Cabo de Gata, with eight bedrooms and a swimming pool which would be partially built on ‘pre-existing constructions’ on protected land.
The fact that the projects are on land of special protection is likely to raise objections.
