The astronomical observatory in Almería province, is open the public and can be reserved for private groups
The Serón planetarium, located in province of Almería, has undertaken a transformation and has now emerged as a full astronomical observatory, complete with robotic dome and several portable telescopes.
The project has been carried out by the astrophysicist, Raúl Martínez Morales and aims to promote astrotourism, providing the opportunity for all kinds of visitors to satisfy their curiosity and can now cater for groups of up to 40 people.
In addition to the planetarium and the interpretation centre, a robotic fibreglass dome has been installed, along with several portable telescopes, which are open to all visitors: there is also a possibility of organizing private sessions for groups.
The new dome has two storeys and transmits information from the telescope to the visitors’ area.
The planetarium has also offered 3D planet simulations and “trips” through the galaxy and the universe.
More information on what the Serón planetarium has to offer and details about special events can be found on their website: planetariodeseron.com
Three years ago, the planetarium was built to host the Fifth Sierra de los Filabres Astronomy Conference, organized by the ‘Amigos del Calar Alto’ organization. The installation was initially six metres wide and five metres tall, with capacity for between 25 and 30 visitors at a time and aimed to increase interest in "astrotourism".
