ARCHIVED - Spain achieves new record with over 330,000 Covid vaccines administered in a day
The figure was reached just before the AstraZeneca jab was suspended in the under-60s
Prior to the latest news regarding the doubts over the safety of the AstraZeneca vaccine the month of April had begun in Spain with undeniable signs that the immunization campaign was at last gathering sufficient momentum, raising hopes that by the summer approximately 50 per cent of the population could have received at least the first of their two doses, and on Wednesday the Ministry of Health reported that a further 336,846 doses had been administered in the previous 24 hours.
This is the highest single-day figure to date in this country – just over half a million were added to the total on 29th March but those were administered over the course of the preceding weekend – and the total of jabs given so far in Spain, including the Pfizer, AstraZeneca and Moderna vaccines, stands at 9,357,847.
The 2,94 million people who have received both doses represent 6.2 per cent of the population, according to the latest Ministry of Health update, while 6.4 million people, or 13.5 per cent of the population, have received at least one dose.
Unfortunately, with the Ministry having hurriedly announced the suspension of AstraZeneca vaccine in the under-60s on Wednesday afternoon, the next daily updates are likely to be a little lower.
