ARCHIVED - Spanish Embassy UK makes a Christmas gaffe over Malaga festive lights
The Embassy has been ridiculed after promoting the Andalucian city's Christmas lights with an out-of-date photo
Part of the role of the Spanish Embassy in the UK is to promote interesting and attractive tourist destinations in Spain, a common practice among embassies around the world.
However, efforts to promote Malaga's Christmas lights on social media has landed the Spanish Embassy in the UK in an embarrassing situation after a post aimed at putting the festive celebrations in the spotlight backfired.
It’s not this year’s display. This is. pic.twitter.com/GczcrJZzJL

The post was uploaded to Twitter on Tuesday December 6, but social media users were quick to notice the content was accompanied by a photograph of the illuminations taken in Malaga's Calle Larios in 2017 and 2018.
After the blooper was brought to its attention, the Embassy apologised, and explained. "It is a copyright problem. We do not have this year's photo and we would need someone to give it to us."
Despite a user providing an updated photo, the image remains on the Embassy's profile, a shame considering many believe this year's image would be much more relatable to Brits, especially those living in London.
The heavenly angels that currently grace Malaga's Calle Larios apparently bear a resemblance to the angels that have illuminated London's Regent Street, one of the city's main shopping streets, for years.
