ARCHIVED - Tenant shoots Malaga landlord in the face with homemade pen gun over water supply
The 75-year-old victim suffered a jaw injury after the shooting at a coffee bar in the Andalucian city
A dispute between a landlord and tenant took a sinister turn in Malaga at the weekend when the latter shot the 75-year-old homeowner in the face with a handmade pen gun.
The pensioner needed treatment for a jaw injury following the shooting at a coffee bar in the Malaga district of Puerto de Torre, the violent culmination of a row over lease issues and a lack of water supply at the rented property.
When the 68-year-old tenant previously complained about having no water, the landlord reportedly told him to "bathe in the river". Furious, the renter, who has since been arrested, decided to take matters into his own hands and made a gun-type contraption out of a biro pen.
The detainee had been living in the rented house for years and, according to reports, had made repeated calls for the homeowner to carry out various repairs and make amendments to the lease, arguing that he was living in unsuitable conditions. The final straw was when the water was cut off.
The two men visited a local coffee bar every morning, and at around 7.30am on Sunday September 25, the victim was seated at a table when the alleged assailant appeared at the door with a pistol-pen, and shot him directly in the face. The victim is recovering from the non-life-threatening injury.
Witnesses claim the victim was "sitting down and that the tenant went straight to him" and "shot him". He then left the bar and was later detained by police.
The incident has shocked the local community, with one neighbour telling Espejo Público newspaper: "We did not expect this from this man because he is peaceful. I have known him for a long time. I don't know if they had any issues but I have seen them talking lots without any problems".
