17 British hikers rescued after becoming lost and dehydrated in the Almería countryside
The Brits had become lost in the Sierra de Níjar, and needed to be rescued after suffering from dizziness and dehydration

Seventeen British hikers were rescued this Sunday afternoon, June 1, in a rocky, mountainous area in the municipality of Níjar (Almería) after finding themselves in distress during a walking route they had started from Mojácar.
The alert was raised at around 2pm via a call in English to 112 Andalucía, which warned that the group could not continue the walk and that some of its members were dizzy and disoriented.
According to sources close to the rescue team, a patrol of the Guardia Civil of San José and three units of the Citizen Security Unit (Usecic) of the Command of Almería were sent to the area.
The latter was in charge of locating the last four people of the group, who had become lost in an area that was difficult to access.
Emergency responders established a meeting point near a restaurant in the area, from where the evacuation was organised.
Despite the scare, all the hikers were rescued in good general condition, although one of them had to be treated on the spot for a slight episode of dehydration.
