25-year-old man dies after diving into no-swimming area of Puerto de Mazarrón
Emergency services were unable to save the young man, in what authorities are taking to be a tragic accident

A 25-year-old man died after diving into the sea in a prohibited area of the Port of Mazarrón this Monday April 27.
The young man, a resident of Mazarrón and identified only by his first name as Abdul, is believed to have entered the water in the early afternoon of Monday. According to witnesses at the scene, he removed his flip-flops before diving headfirst into an area of the fishing port where swimming is not allowed.
Those present quickly realised something was wrong. The spot where he entered the water is known locally for having a muddy seabed, and witnesses reported that he was unable to resurface or get out unaided. “He’s at the bottom; he hasn’t moved for several minutes,” one caller told emergency services as the alarm was raised.
Civil Protection teams from Mazarrón Town Council, along with officers from the Local Police and the Civil Guard, were dispatched to the scene within minutes. Despite their rapid response, there was nothing they could do to save him, and his body was later recovered from the water.
Sources close to the investigation indicate that the young man may have struck his head on the seabed upon entering the water, in an area where mud and poor visibility can make conditions particularly hazardous.
