34 people get food poisoning from bad tuna in Almeria
A bad batch of tuna served in a restaurant in Almanzora led four people to be taken to hospital
A batch of frozen tuna said to be ‘in poor condition’ has caused food poisoning of more than thirty people in the Almanzora Valley, Andalucía after the batch in question, which came from Madrid, was served this Tuesday May 23 at a restaurant in Almeria.
At least 34 people required medical attention after eating the tuna, which allegedly contained histamine, a substance which, when present in food, can cause severe intoxication.
In fact, four of those affected had to be referred to hospitals in the province of Almeria as a preventive measure and to monitor those cases with the most virulent symptoms.
The spoiled tuna came down to Almeria from Madrid, where there were also cases reported of food poisoning. The distribution company had allegedly failed to warn of the problems with the product.
On learning of this, all the protocols of both the company and the competent administration were activated, leading to the presence of health inspectors who went to the places where the product was served to investigate what had happened.
All those who needed to go to hospital have already been discharged.
