ARCHIVED - 40,000 euros to continue work on Huelva Hispano-Roman archaeological site of Turóbriga
Turóbriga is the only Hispano-Roman city in the Andalusian province of Huelva that is open to visitors

The Andalusian government has pledged a further 40,000 euros to research and recovery of the Turóbriga archaeological site in collaboration with the University of Huelva.
Work will also continue with projects to improve access and signs to the site of the Hispano-Roman city and enhance singular elements such as the forum and the market.
The General Research Project on Turóbriga began in 2006, following preliminary investigations which indicated that the site could be of significant interest as has proven to be the case.
Turóbriga is the only historic site of its nature in Huelva province that is open to visitors.
The Roman site dates back to the middle of the 1st century AD, during the reign of Emperor Nero.
The city includes a forum, baths and various other buildings and its main function was to control and keep the peace in the conflictive Baeturia Celtica region.
Significant elements have survived such as a portico that gave access to the temple, a square and imperial cult chapels, baths and a large building identified as a space of worship consecrated to Mars.
The site is located in Aroche, Huelva, at km 128 on the Carretera Nacional 433.
Visits can be made between 8 am and 5 pm Tuesdays to Thursdays and between 11 am and 5 pm on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and holidays between 1 October and 14 May.
The summer season runs from 15 May to 30 September, with opening hours from 9 am to 3 pm Tuesdays to Fridays and 10.30 am to 3 pm on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.
The site remains closed on 1, 5 and 6 January, 31 May, 1 and 2 June, 15-18 August, 24, 25 and 31 December.
