ARCHIVED - 5G technology changing the way we view Malaga tourist attractions
Vodafone Spain is testing its 5G network in the Andalusian city with projects aiming to bring tourist attractions to the forefront of technology.
Although modern technology and particularly youngsters’ obsession with and dependence on it can confuse and exasperate members of the older generations, it seems to be here to stay, especially since the pandemic has changed the way we all interact with the world around us.
With this in mind, two projects are underway in Málaga city to optimize tourists’ experiences at popular attractions by employing a Vodafone 5G network to create digital tours and recreations accessible by mobile phone, meaning that in the future, those seen staring at their screens in the middle of museums might actually be learning something about their surroundings after all!
In collaboration with companies housed at the city’s Digital Content Hub (Viewtek, 3inTech and Meenas 2.0.), these initial projects have focused on Málaga Cathedral and the Automobile and Fashion Museum.
QR codes and applications will allow visitors to discover the attractions in a different, educational and innovative way in what is expected to become the future of tourist tours, with 3D images, augmented reality and virtual reality all used to take visitors back in time or explain different aspects in a manner which will appeal to the modern consumer.
It’s certainly an eye-opener sitting in a historic monument being surrounded by a virtual recreation of how it is believed to have appeared in the past, and certainly helps to bring history to life in an interesting and entertaining fashion.
