6 free walking tours to get to know Benidorm better
The new routes in the Costa Blanca city will use an innovative augmented reality system to guide visitors around the most important points of interest
Whether you’re a regular visitor to Benidorm, a resident in the popular Spanish coastal city or you’ve never been before, there is always something new and surprising to discover in this beautiful beach resort.
Benidorm Council has catalogued and added a total of 27 unmissable points of interest in the city, and hooked them up to a technological system of informative signs with augmented reality to “show tourists, and also residents, our heritage, cultural and landscape offer and how we propose to experience it”, according to Mayor Toni Pérez.
These historical, cultural and scenic attractions can be enjoyed by walking the 6 new pedestrian routes that have been set up to join them all together, in an alternative tourist plan for visitors to Benidorm.
These 6 routes are:
- The historical route
- The historical-landscape route
- The urban art route
- The viewpoint route
- The parks route
- The museum and cultural route
The future of tourism in Benidorm: augmented reality tour guides
These are “six routes of moderate distance, designed to be travelled on foot,” says Pérez, with signposts and modules with QR codes and the Navilens system integrated into them, to provide walkers with information to learn all about the local area in a sustainable way. By scanning these codes and accessing the info, visitors will be presented with a digital guide on their phone who is present in their surroundings by way of augmented reality and who will explain all about the points of interest.
Augmented reality will also be used to be able to see landscapes, historical places and buildings as they were in their time.
