ARCHIVED - An unseasonably hot end to the year: Andalusia weather forecast Dec 26-Jan 1
There will be 22-degree temperatures nearly every day this week in Andalusia
The autonomous community of Andalusia, like much of the rest of the south of Spain, will have sunny skies and warm temperatures this week as we approach the end of 2022.
While a storm sweeps across the Atlantic, leaving heavy rainfall and thunderstorms in Galicia and the northwest of Spain, plus yellow and orange weather warnings in the Canary Islands, which are situated off the western coast of Africa in the Atlantic Ocean, Andalusia will have temperatures in excess of 20ºC and sunny skies for almost the whole week.
In fact, the maximum temperatures along the coastal areas such as Almeria and Malaga will be a steady 22ºC every afternoon, while in no part of the region will temperatures drop below zero, even in the middle of the night.
This uncharacteristically warm weather for this time of year means that, although winter only officially began in Spain last Wednesday December 21 and spring doesn’t start until March 20, 2023, some trees and plants are already starting to flower.
These early blossoms play havoc with gardens and crops, tricking the plants into thinking it’s springtime and then, when a sudden frost comes along, it kills a lot of the fruit and vegetables, meaning a harder winter for farmers, less produce for consumers, and higher prices in the greengrocers.
What’s more, the reservoirs that provide clean water to the Andalusia region are still below their normal level for this time of year, as they have been ever since the start of the extremely hot summer this year, and a lack of rainfall will only exacerbate this problem.
Luckily for the region, part of the storm coming in across the north of Spain will bring precipitation to the western province of Huelva on Sunday January 1, New Year’s Day.
