Andalucía weekend weather forecast August 20-23: Cooler and more settled as the westerly flow holds
Temperatures ease further across the region with largely clear skies, though storms return to the eastern interior on Thursday and rain arrives in the west by Sunday
The cooler westerly shift that arrived mid-week brought welcome relief after a long stretch of intense heat, across Andalucía, and that cooler pattern carries into this weekend. It's a more varied four days than the unbroken sunshine of July, with storms in the east on Thursday, a quieter middle spell and rain creeping in from the west by Sunday.Thursday August 20
Andalucía weather forecast, Thursday August 20The east bears the brunt of things to start. Skies turn increasingly cloudy in the eastern interior, where thunderstorms and heavy showers are likely, particularly in the mountains and during the afternoon, with hail and very strong gusts possible. Storm warnings are in place for Granada and Almería. Elsewhere it's partly cloudy with the chance of occasional showers. Temperatures drop noticeably across most of the region, with the eastern interior seeing the sharpest falls in maximums. Winds are westerly, moderate to strong along the Mediterranean coast and lighter elsewhere.
Friday August 21
Andalucía temperatures, Friday August 21A much calmer day. Partly cloudy to clear skies, with low cloud and morning mist on the Atlantic slope and some cloud building in the mountain ranges during the afternoon. No significant weather warnings. Temperatures continue to ease, with maximums falling further in the far east. Málaga stays the warmest at around 34°C, while Cádiz is a noticeably more comfortable 26°C. Winds are light to moderate westerly, turning moderate with occasional strong gusts along the Mediterranean coast.
Saturday August 22
Andalucía temperatures, Saturday August 22Another largely settled day, with partly cloudy to clear skies across the region. Temperatures tick up in the eastern interior, though elsewhere they hold steady or ease slightly. Jaén and the inland areas feel the modest warming, while Seville and the Atlantic side see little change. Winds remain light to moderate westerly, with moderate gusts along the Mediterranean coast and around the Strait of Gibraltar.
Sunday August 23
Andalucía temperatures, Sunday August 23Rain returns, at least for the western parts of the region. Skies turn cloudier as the day goes on, with rain arriving in the western areas by later in the day. Minimums are broadly unchanged or slightly lower, and maximums dip in the far west while holding steady elsewhere. Huelva and Tarifa are most likely to see the wet weather, while the eastern coast stays dry. Winds continue light to moderate westerly, with moderate gusts along the Mediterranean and around the Strait.
A considerably gentler weekend than most of the summer has delivered. Storms on Thursday and rain on Sunday bookend a largely pleasant few days in the middle, and for those who spent July melting inland, it'll feel like a different season entirely.
