Andalucia man investigated for uploading cock fighting videos
The cruel animal fights are believed to have been filmed in a Malaga town

An investigation by the Local Police of Malaga has identified a 21-year-old as the alleged perpetrator of a crime of animal abuse linked to illegal cockfighting.
Officers specialised in monitoring social networks for illicit activities discovered several videos on Instagram that showed birds fighting to the death, with the owner of the winning rooster boasting that his animal had already killed nine others. Shockingly, two 13-year-old children had also uploaded the gruesome footage to their own profiles.
The probe led officers from the Nature Protection Group (GRUPRONA) to a property in the La Corta neighbourhood where the 21-year-old suspect lived.
Although the agents failed to locate the rooster in the videos when inspecting his home, they did find another similar bird with a mutilated crest wandering on the terrace, along with a hen and her chicks. A large quantity of cash was also seized.
Charges have been brought against the young man for keeping animals in unfit conditions, mutilating them without veterinary supervision and using birds in illegal fights. He is also being investigated for the crime of animal abuse.
Incredibly, the cruel sport of cockfighting is still technically allowed in Andalucia, although it is now strictly regulated. There are rigorous rules about the conditions the roosters must be kept in, as well as procedures around how the fights should be ended.
In addition, the possession of fighting cocks must not be for profit and must not take place within the home.
