Andalucía weekend weather forecast July 23-26: Storms and heat ease, but warnings linger
A gradual cooling gets under way this weekend, though Almería and Málaga stay on alert as temperatures remain well above average
After a brutal stretch across Andalucía, that has seen some intense heat and storm warnings stacking up alongside, this weekend brings the first real signs of the region beginning to breathe again. It's a slow process, and Thursday still carries serious warnings, but by Sunday the picture looks noticeably calmer.Thursday July 23
Andalucía max temperatures, Thursday July 23Weather warnings cover almost every area, with Almería carrying the added weight of a storm alert for the northeastern mountains, where thunderstorms are possible in the afternoon and could bring hail and very strong gusts. Temperatures shift in opposite directions depending on where you are: the Atlantic side, sees maximums ease slightly, while the Mediterranean side sees them climb, significantly so in the far east. Huelva is the one area without a formal warning, though at 35°C it's hardly cause for celebration. Dust is in suspension across the region. Winds are light and variable, with moderate westerly gusts in the afternoon.
Friday July 24
Andalucía max temperatures, Friday July 24Warnings narrow to Almería and Málaga as the rest of the region starts to cool. Skies are partly cloudy or clear, with mid- and high-level cloud drifting in along the Mediterranean coast. Dust lingers in the southeastern half. Temperatures are unchanged or slightly higher on the Mediterranean coast, lower elsewhere, and Cádiz is the only area not in the thirties, sitting at a far more pleasant 28°C. Winds pick up along the Mediterranean coast, with strong westerly gusts possible, so it could be a breezy day in Málaga.
Saturday July 25
Andalucía temperatures, Saturday July 25Things calm down considerably. Partly cloudy or clear skies, no storm warnings, and temperatures generally falling across the board, noticeably so in the mountains. Seville, Jaén and the interior highlands feel the benefit most. Winds are light to moderate westerlies. Not quite cool, but compared to what's gone before, it'll feel like a different week.
Sunday July 26
Andalucía temperatures, Sunday July 26A split picture to close the weekend. Minimums dip in the eastern third, including around Granada, while the Atlantic coast sees maximums nudge back up. Tarifa, as ever doing its own thing at the tip of the peninsula, catches the westerly flow nicely. Córdoba, which has carried the heat all week, should finally see some genuine easing. Winds are light and variable, easterly along the Mediterranean coast and westerly on the Atlantic side.
The corner has been turned, just about. It's been a long and punishing spell, and the weekend won't feel fresh by any normal measure, but the trend is finally heading in the right direction.

- Friday July 24: Min 19ºC; Max 40ºC
