Andalusia cruise passengers in 2023 triple in a year
The pre-summer season figures point to a bumper year for cruise tourism in the south of Spain

Cruise tourism is on track to set records this year in Andalucía, as indicated by the latest figures on the number of tourists coming to the southern Spanish region on cruise ships.
Between January and May 2023, even before the summer high period – which is expected to beat all records for the number of tourists coming to visit Spain on vacation – the cruise ports of Andalucía ports have received a total of 387,129 passengers.
This is in comparison with 191,199 in the same period of 2022, an increase of 202%, according to statistics published by Puertos del Estado.
The Andalusian port that has registered the most movements is Cádiz, with a total of 131 ships and 198,632 passengers.
It is followed by Málaga, with 118 cruise ships and 167,401 tourists. Nationwide, the port with the most movements was Las Palmas, with 356 cruise ships and 819,936 passengers.
While cruise ship tourism seems to be making a strong comeback after Covid, a recent report from campaign group Transport & Environment has found that cruise ships are one of the biggest contributors to climate change in Europe, contributing to more carbon emissions last year than all of the continent’s cars put together.
