The irregular immigrants, including two pregnant women and several minors, had attempted to cross the Strait of Gibraltar from the North of Africa
At least 80 irregular immigrants have been transported to the coast of Andalucía by the Maritime Rescue Services after attempting to cross the Strait of Gibraltar this Sunday (June 27).
The first incident took place at 3 am, when the emergency services received a call from a man who was on board an inflatable boat with six other migrants as their boat had run out of fuel. All of the passengers were males and their boat had departed from Alhucemas, in Morocco.
The rescue boat ‘Gienah’ located the migrants at around 6 am and transported them safely to the port of Motril in Granada.
Meanwhile, the Guardia Civil encountered another migrant boat to the northwest of the Cape of Trafalgar and they contacted Maritime Rescue to request humanitarian support. A different rescue boat, ‘Enif’, then picked up a further 38 immigrants, all of whom were North African males, and took them to the port in the Bay of Algeciras, in Cádiz.
Another 21 people, including two minors and two pregnant women, were also rescued by the Guardia Civil. These immigrants were also from North Africa and were taken to the port of Almeria at around 4 am.
On Sunday morning (June 27) at 10 am, the Guardia Civil contacted the Maritime Rescue services again to inform them that another 14 people had been rescued from a boat due to the bad weather conditions. Those rescued, 12 men, one woman and a child, were taken to the port of Garrucha, in the province of Almería.
