ARCHIVED - New sports and leisure space for Estepona
The new facilities will offer sports courts, green spaces and parking in Estepona, Malaga.
Estepona council is currently engaged in an ongoing series of improvements to green spaces throughout the municipality, and has this week presented plans for an additional outdoor sports area.
Having approved the final specifications for the project, the next step is to put out a tender for bidders to create the infrastructure on a plot of land in the eastern suburbs of Estepona on Calle Lima.
The space, which will be located on a plot of more than 8,000 square metres, will offer a building for meetings, classrooms, a gym, restaurants and offices, as well as at least six tennis courts and parking for almost 50 cars. A park will also be created next to the banks of the Las Cañas stream.
Officials have now approved the details for the tender, including how the space will be used, built and maintained. The company which wins the tender will be awarded the site for a maximum of 50 years at €26,594.30 a year.
The project is the latest in a series of works being carried out by Estepona council to improve the area for locals and tourists, including creating a pedestrian path alongside the Las Cañas stream, connecting Calle Lima with the coastal path and allowing access to both the centre of Estepona and the rest of the coastline.
The council has also recently been carrying out works to improve safety at its beaches in a bid to attract tourists ahead of the summer.
