ARCHIVED - No penises on heads: Malaga has new rules for stag and hen dos that all Brits should be aware of
The Andalusia city is cracking down on nudity, giant penises and blow-up sex dolls at stag and hen parties
The sunny city of Malaga on Spain’s southern Costa del Sol is one of the top destinations for stag and hen parties, both for Spaniards and for people coming from overseas for a city break. Stags, hens and their friends come to Malaga to enjoy a drink, dress up and party.
But now locals are fed up with the out-of-control stag and hen dos being noisy, making a ruckus and just generally causing public disturbances with their apparently obscene antics.
That’s why the City Council of Malaga is pushing ahead with new legislation to regulate the behaviour of stag parties banning such things as going down the street wearing nothing but underwear or having giant, inflatable accessories in the shape of genitals.
Laws already exist to sanction “uncivic actions” in the streets, like urinating or drinking alcohol (which is actually illegal on a public street in Spain), but now it wants to put a stop to certain behaviours that are often carried out by groups of young and not so young people in Malaga.
This involves amending an existing citizen ordinance to include specific prohibitions. This proposed amendment states that, “except with municipal authorisation for specific places, it is forbidden to walk or remain in the streets or in public spaces without clothes or only in underwear, with clothes or accessories that represent human genitals or with dolls or elements of a sexual nature.”
Basically, you won’t be able to walk around naked, carry inflatable sex dolls or wear huge plastic penises on your head – all of which are very common at stag and hen parties.
What are the new punishments for breaking these rules?
The published text states that in the first instance, police officers will inform those affected of the ban and “only if they persist in the unacceptable attitude will the relevant condemnation be made”.
In short, if police catch you doing any of these things, you will be given a warning first, and then if you refuse to cover up or deflate that giant penis, you could be slapped with a fine.
Malaga City Council has explained that its aim is to “preserve the public space as a place of meeting, coexistence and civility, in which all people can freely develop their activities of free movement, leisure and recreation, with full respect for others and for the plurality of expressions and ways of life.”
