ARCHIVED - Pepco the Polish Primark continues expansion in Spain with second store in Alicante
The budget retail chain opened its first Spanish store in Alicante last year

Twelve months ago, major low-cost home and fashion chain Pepco, coined the 'Polish Primark', opened its debut store in Spain in Alicante city, and just a year later has invested in the city once again with a second outlet.
After opening a large store in Gran Via Shopping Centre in April 2021, the highest-growing budget retailer in Europe set itself the goal of reaching 10 outlets on the Costa Blanca within a year.
Sure enough, the Polish firm has since opened shops in Elche, Orihuela, and Finestra, in addition to the Valencian towns of Alfafar, Sagunt, and Xàtiva and other locations in Castellón. And on Thursday March 31, the first customers walked through the doors of the latest premises in its Spanish fleet at the former Prama Fitness in Calle Reyes Católicos.
The Pepco portfolio includes almost 2,200 stores in Europe spread across 16 countries offering children's, women's, and men's clothing, as well as accessories, toys, textiles, and household items at affordable prices. Fashion accounts for the largest chunk, making up 60% of the firm's sales.
The chain is part of the Pepco Group N.V., which owns Dealz (also present in Spain and known in the UK as Poundland), and has been listed on the London Stock Exchange since 2014.
The Polish retailer, founded in 1999 by Brown & Jackson before a name change in 2004, closed its last fiscal year in September 2021 with a 19.3% increase in revenue to 4.1 billion euros, despite the pandemic.
The group employs more than 23,000 people in the countries where it currently operates, and it has plans to move into Germany later this year.
