Belgian man shot to death in luxury villa on the Costa del Sol
The high-end Málaga villa was a regular party spot, according to police
A 34-year-old Belgian man died of a gunshot wound following a wild party at a luxury villa in Estepona, Málaga, on Monday night, August 12. The body was discovered by Andalucía emergency workers who responded to a report that shots had been fired at number 168 Calle Hortensia just before 9pm.
Upon arrival, paramedics confirmed that the young man had been shot in the back at least once. Two other people were treated for injuries at the scene, but neither required hospitalisation.
According to a local resident, raucous parties are a regular occurrence at the high-end villa, especially on the weekends, thrown by the homeowners themselves. And while investigators are still trying to piece together what happened Monday night, they’ve established that there was a large gathering judging by the number of beer bottles lying around.
These “clandestine” parties often last into the early hours of the morning after local nightlife venues have closed.
Three years ago, a DJ also died on the Costa del Sol in similar circumstances: at a private party and from a gunshot wound. The victim was found with a bullet in his neck in a villa in a luxury development in Marbella. Ten people were arrested at the time, including the alleged shooter, a 30-year-old German man, who was investigated for the crimes of homicide and illegal possession of weapons.
The events took place on March 29, 2021, in a house in the Guadalmina Urbanisation. Apparently, the house had been rented for the weekend and in the early hours of Monday, one of the guests fired several shots, killing the victim.
The officers who went to the scene found the house empty, discovering only the lifeless body of a man in one of the rooms.
The shooter was eventually located and arrested in Málaga, just as he was about to board a flight out of the country.
