Benalmadena beaches only open on weekends from now until July
The Costa del Sol resort town is carrying out vital renovation work to its seawall
Benalmádena Town Council in the province of Malaga has announced that it will close the beaches of Torrebermeja and Las Gaviotas to the public from next Monday, March 20, due to extension works of the seawall of Malapesquera.
The building work consists of extending the existing seawall between the beaches of Malapesquera and Santa Ana to the tune of 1.1 million euros.
The beaches will be closed until July 1, until which time it is deemed dangerous to go near there because of lorries and diggers constantly moving around.
However, members of the public will be able to access the chiringuito beach bars in the area, which are being allowed to remain open. The seafront promenade will also stay open, but it is the sandy beaches which will be closed.
Benalmádena beach opening times
That said, there are times when the construction workers will pack up hastily and the beaches will be open to the public.
In the interest of making the most of the tourist season this Easter and in the run-up to summer, the Playa de Torrebermeja and the Playa de las Gaviotas will be open on the weekends, from Fridays at midday.
There will not be any sunbeds available to rent though.
Although it will be a blow for local tourism, Councilwoman Encarnación Cortés said that it is “in pursuit of a greater good: the final protection of these beaches”.
