ARCHIVED - Brief but powerful storms batter areas of Andalusia, leaving flooding and damage to property in their wake
Houses, businesses and even a fire station were flooded in deluges in Granada and Jaén

Mere minutes of a torrential downpour in Granada left streets and homes flooded on the afternoon of Tuesday September 20, and numerous houses had to be evacuated in the town of Pedro Martínez.
Although heavy rain was forecast in Andalusia earlier in the day, the sudden deluge caught residents off guard at around 4.40pm, and streets like San Gregorio, Abades or Cañas were quickly rendered impassable, while nearby schools and buildings had to be evacuated.
Hardly an inch of Granada remained untouched by the storm but thankfully the fire department and Guardia Civil’s efforts were mainly focused on draining surface water rather than treating any injures, although one woman was seen by the emergency services for anxiety symptoms and a man suffered bruising.
In Pinos Puente, the towns of Zujaira and Casanueva were the most affected, while in Valderrubio the A-336 road was briefly cut off to traffic in both directions at kilometre 19. An industrial estate in El Arco was also flooded and had to be drained.
The situation has returned to a semblance of normality on Wednesday September 21, although the province of Granada remains on a yellow weather alert for possible storms and heavy rain, particularly in Cuenca del Genil, Guadix and Baza.
Things were little better in neighbouring Jaén, where the storm raged into Wednesday, causing extensive flooding to commercial buildings, ground floor apartments and streets.
The worst of the damage was recorded in the Andújar municipality, where a total of 20 calls were made to the local emergency services, primarily as a result of flooding in privately-owned properties.
No injuries were reported, but in the short hour during which the rains poured, the fire station, a car garage and several restaurants and cafes were damaged by the rain.
