British and Irish men arrested over Marbella restaurant shooting
The gangsters blew out the window of a Puerto Banús eatery last month
The National Police of Málaga have arrested two men suspected of being involved in the dramatic shoot-up of a Marbella restaurant last month. Despite the seriousness of the incident, nobody was injured. According to official sources, one of the detainees is British and the other is Irish.
The arrests took place on the same day that a 21-year-old man was shot in another part of Marbella, but the police have ruled out any connection between the two incidents.
The two suspects, believed to be members of an organised crime group, face charges of damage, making threats, possessing weapons illegally, document forgery and violating immigration laws.
During raids on their homes in Marbella and Estepona, the police found 31,190 euros in cash, a large machete and a revolver. Both men have been remanded in custody.
The shooting happened in the Puerto Banús area at around midday, and several police patrols immediately responded to the scene. According to reports, the gangsters drew up beside the eatery on a motorcycle and one of the men opened fire on the restaurant’s front window, firing at least 15 shots.
Agents from the Marbella Organised Crime unit (Udyco) took charge of the investigation, working tirelessly to track down the attackers.
By identifying the vehicle used and following its route after the attack, the police were able to trace the suspects to their hideout. This methodical approach has proven very successful for the National Police, who recently apprehended three Swedish citizens accused of attempting to kill two countrymen in February on Celle Yedra. One victim sustained two gunshot wounds in that incident.
Collaborative efforts between various police units, including the Prevention and Reaction Unit (UPR), GOES and Aerial Media of the Malaga Provincial Police Station, culminated in the successful arrests on March 25.
