Cabo de Palos market makes way for several new food trucks

Cartagena City Council has unveiled plans to convert part of the weekly market in Cabo de Palos into a gastronomic area featuring three or four food trucks and a shaded seating area. It will be the first market in the locale to incorporate this kind of set-up, giving shoppers a chance to rest their feet and refuel.

The Cabo de Palos street market is held every Sunday and due to its location it is the most frequented in the municipality, attracting tourists, locals and plenty of customers from neighbouring towns. It had to be moved to this temporary location due to the massive redevelopment in Las Dunas, and the authorities are hoping that the make-shift restaurants will draw even more shoppers.

All of the stall owners have welcomed the addition but it will change the layout of the market considerably. Around 36 kiosks will have to be moved from the highest area of the market, making them more accessible but also clearing a large open space for the new food trucks.

Councillor for Commerce, Hospitality and Consumer Affairs, Belén Romero, believes the novel gastronomic offering “will change the life of the Cabo de Palos market for its vendors and visitors.”
