Casa Pérez de los Cobos, Jumilla
A palatial 16th century residence which is currently being restored
The Casa Pérez de los Cobos in Jumilla is a palatial residence dating from the 16th century which stands on Calle del Rico (appropriately, the “street of the rich man”, named after the man who commissioned its construction, Francisco Pérez de los Cobos!). The façade stands out due to its wrought iron window grills and the stone coat of arms above the ornate doorway on a pediment which is supported by rampant lions: this coat of arms belonged to the Pérez de los Cobos family.
The building, which is also known as the Casa Honda del Barón del Solar de Espinosa and the Casa Solariega de los Cutillas, passed from the hands of the Pérez de los Cobos into the ownership of those families, and during its history has also been used as an inn and a grain store, as well as the local home of the newspaper La Opinión.
The house was restored in 2021 using 1.5% Cultural funds from the Ministry of Development and the Jumilla Town Council to turn it into the new home of the House of Music and Legacy of the Arts of Jumilla.
Inside, it houses the entire musical legacy of the composer Julián Santos and exhibition rooms dedicated to composer Roque Baños, as well as various works by Jumilla painters like Saorín and D. Balsalobre and an explanation of the history of the great contribution made by Jumilla to the art world.
Address: Calle del Rico, 14, 30520 Jumilla
