Children arrested in Andalucía for setting fire to a homeless man
Two minors have been arrested and another 2 are being questioned in relation to this unthinkable crime in Almería
Months after the most heinous of crimes took place in the town of Adra, Almería, the Guardia Civil have arrested two children for setting fire to a homeless man.
Two other minors are still under investigation for allegedly encouraging and helping the perpetrators carry out the unthinkable crime.
This incident bears a grim resemblance to a similar case in Valencia, where eleven people were arrested for attacks on homeless individuals.
According to the Almería branch of the Guardia Civil, the arrested minors face charges of attempted murder and hate crimes. They have been placed under the jurisdiction of the Juvenile Prosecutor's Office, and the authorities have ordered their placement in a reformatory as a precautionary measure.
The incident dates back to mid-April on a street in Adra, where the homeless man was sleeping rough. The suspects suddenly set fire to the clothes he was wearing while he lay asleep. Thankfully, a quick-thinking neighbour noticed the flames and rushed to the man's aid, helping to extinguish the fire and alerting the emergency services by calling 112.
Officers who arrived at the scene gathered evidence, interviewed witnesses and reconstructed the events, ultimately determining the involvement of all four minors.
The victim suffered extensive burns but is alive thanks to the local’s swift response.
It’s been a week of shocking news for Almería, as reports have just emerged that a British man was murdered while out walking his dog in the quiet town of Zurgena.
According to officials, the man was attacked on August 12 by his neighbour, who smashed the Briton over the head with a garden hoe when he ventured too close to his property. The victim was rushed to intensive care in the La Inmaculada Hospital in Huercal-Overa, but he sadly died from his head injuries a few days later.
