ARCHIVED - Computer glitch in Andalusia allows everyone to book Covid booster jab
The system is back up and running in Andalucía and incorrect appointments have been cancelled
A serious “computer failure” at the Andalucían Health Service (SAS) led to thousands of people being able to make an appointment for a booster Covid vaccine even though they didn’t meet the age requirement or, in many cases, hadn't received their second dose more than six months ago.
At present, in Andalucía, the booster is only legitimately being offered to those over the age of 58, health and social care personnel and people originally vaccinated with Janssen or a two-dose regimen of AstraZeneca.
But on Thursday December 30, anyone who logged on to the system was able to book an appointment for as early as January 2022.
The health authorities were alerted to the glitch almost immediately and assured that “an attempt is already being made to solve” the problem. While technicians worked on the issue, the appointment portal was disabled and all of the incorrect bookings have been cancelled.
The Ministry has offered its "apologies for the inconvenience caused" and appealed to the "individual responsibility to respect the prioritisation of the third doses to the established groups".
All information on vaccinations in Andalucía is available on the official website.
