ARCHIVED - Cordoba council activates heatwave protocol as temperatures soar to the high 30s
Temperatures in Cordoba, Andalucia, are expected to reach nearly 40 degrees this week.
As temperatures begin to rise across Andalucia, Cordoba council is putting in place its heatwave plan to prevent illness and protect the vulnerable.
From today, Wednesday June 9, the council will be offering up to 10 spaces a day for the needy or homeless at its municipal shelter from 1 pm to 8 pm.
The shelter offers those escaping the heat lunch and snack services, and is keeping in place health measures including the wearing of a mask.
Councillor Eva Contador said Cordoba council had opened up the shelter as temperatures are expected to increase over the coming days and to prevent vulnerable locals becoming ill from the heat during the hottest hours in the city.
Anyone wanting to reserve a place at the shelter can do so at municipal offices across Cordoba.
