Corvera named Best Airport in Europe for fourth year running
The Region of Murcia International Airport took home the prize in the 2 million passengers category
Murcia’s Corvera airport has once again been named the best small airport in Europe, picking up the title for the fourth year in a row.
The Region of Murcia International Airport, better known locally as Corvera, won the award in the under 2 million passengers category at the 2025 ASQ Customer Experience Awards. The prizes are handed out by Airports Council International and are based entirely on passenger feedback.
That means that it’s travellers themselves who rate their experience, scoring everything from cleanliness and waiting times to security, facilities and staff friendliness. Corvera previously took the same title in 2021, 2022 and 2023, and has now done it again.
The ASQ programme is a global benchmarking system used to compare airports of a similar size around the world. For a relatively small regional airport, it’s a significant pat on the back.
The recognition is particularly important for Corvera because it won’t benefit from Aena’s planned €13 billion investment programme for 2027 to 2031. The airport has operated under a specific concession arrangement since it opened in January 2019. This means that any major future development will depend on its own passenger growth and the profitability of the concession, rather than direct investment from Aena’s wider pot.
Over the past year, the airport has carried out a number of improvements as part of its quality plan. Lighting has been upgraded in several areas of the terminal, new toilets for passengers with ostomies have been installed and staff supporting people with reduced mobility have received additional training.
There is now also a book exchange point and the commercial facilities have been expanded, including a refurbished duty free shop and two new outlets.
Airport director Carlos Domingo San Martín said the award was especially meaningful because it reflects the direct opinions of passengers and shows that recent improvements are being noticed.
In total, Aena picked up 15 awards across 10 of its airports. Alongside Corvera, awards went to Madrid-Barajas Airport, Gran Canaria Airport, Menorca Airport, Girona-Costa Brava Airport, Reus Airport, El Hierro Airport, Pamplona Airport and Vigo Airport.
Meanwhile, Barcelona-El Prat Airport collected three separate awards, including European Airport with the Friendliest Staff and Most Pleasant European Airport. Girona-Costa Brava and Pamplona were also recognised as the Cleanest European Airports in their categories.
